Man arrested for kidnapping, killing differently-abled woman in South East Delhi

A bullet hit him on his right leg, and he fired two rounds at the police team in an attempt to escape, they said.

The police said he had not disclosed the motive of the crime and instead gave vague, random answers, like she would laugh or smile at him.

They also said it seemed he was experiencing some mental issues, although no documents or papers were recovered from him.

The woman was allegedly kidnapped from her house while sleeping on the terrace with her parents.

Later, her body was found in the same lane, in an abandoned jhuggi, and the police filed a case of kidnapping and murder.

The police zeroed in on Rajpal, who earlier used to live in the neighbourhood, after they recovered CCTV footage of him carrying the woman on his shoulders.

The police formed a team of special staff, South East district, and laid a trap to nab the accused. When he saw the police team, he allegedly fired two rounds with the intention to escape, one of which hit the bulletproof jacket of a sub-inspector.

In self-defence, the SI fired two rounds, one of which hit the right leg of the accused.

The police said the accused is employed as hotel staff in Paharganj.

He has allegedly been divorced twice and is currently living separately from his third wife.

They said his habitual drinking and anger issues could be the reasons for the separation.

Earlier, after the woman’s body was found, a crime team inspected the area and sent the body to AIIMS.

The police said the probable cause of death was asphyxia due to strangulation and that the post-mortem report was awaited.
