Assistant directors are seldom well-known but Shawn Arranha,30,has fought his way out of obscurity after assisting a series of directors on movies like Lakshya,Mission Istanbul and Mangal Pandey: The Rising. Arranha has put together his own ensemble cast of former Miss India- Earth Amruta Patki and fringy actors like Arjan Bajwa and Ayaz Khan for a suspense-thriller Hide And Seek that releases on February 19. “As AD of a film one is executing the director’s vision. As director myself,I have to make my own decisions,” says Arranha.

The plot is slightly hackneyed, about a group of six friends whose dodgy past eventually catches up and leads to deadly consequences. “Suspense thrillers follow the same format but I feel I have treated it differently,” says Arranha, who counts the experience of working on Apoorva Lakhia’s film Shootout at Lokhandwala as the most enriching of his career so far. “I learnt to organise my shoots properly and maintain production budgets. Next,I hope to do a traditional romantic-comedy,” he signs off.
