A leopard entered the Ghaziabad court complex and attacked at least eight people on Wednesday afternoon, officials said. After a four-hour joint operation carried out by police and forest department, officials said they rescued the big cat around 9 pm.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (KaviNagar) Abhishek Srivastav said that at least eight people were injured in the incident. “As per the information received, eight persons sustained injuries, but nobody was seriously injured. While some were hospitalised, others were relieved after first aid,” he added.

Officials said that the court complex was vacated immediately following information on the animal. Some people were stuck inside who were later assisted by police and forest department officials.

Photos and videos of the incident uploaded on social media show a group of lawyers helping a man who seems to be seriously injured with his clothes soaked in blood. In a similar video, a man is seen trying to stop the blood flow from the left side of his neck.

Lawyer Sumit Kumar, practising in Ghaziabad court and one of the witnesses of the incident, said that his colleagues have sustained serious injuries. “Around 4 pm, we got to know that a leopard had entered the old building. I do not know where it came from. First, the leopard attacked a labourer in the court complex. It also attacked one of my lawyers. He is in the hospital and has a serious injury. The leopard was rescued around 9 pm after hours of operation,” said Kumar.
