Kejriwal govt made education agenda for all: Manish Sisodia

“Until the Kejriwal government came into power, ‘education’ was never the agenda of elections across the nation and now each state wants a government which can work towards the development of the education sector. Even political parties have started to give priority to education,” Sisodia said.

He added that from infrastructure to inculcating a growth mindset among students and other stakeholders, the Kejriwal government has been working on each component of the education system in a structured manner.

“The government was always sure what it wanted from education. And it began with increasing the education budget share to 25% in 2015. Today all the Delhi government schools have been provided with state-of-the-art infrastructure, which includes smart classrooms, highly equipped laboratories, computer labs, montessori labs, and world-class sports facilities. This target was achieved with the little shift of budget here and there and giving priority to education,” he said.

Sisodia stated that in addition to this, the Kejriwal government had set up the Delhi Teachers University which will set new standards in the field of teachers’ education.

“Our three curriculums- Happiness Curriculum, Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum and Deshbhakti curriculum, aim to develop social, emotional and professional abilities of students from the school level,” he said.

Speaking of the Delhi government’s approach towards National Education Policy 2020, Sisodia said, “Several education policies have been made in India, but they have never been implemented properly. All the policies spoke of harmony, social-emotional wellbeing of students and teachers, and innovative curriculums but none of the state or central governments ever worked on implementing such things on the ground.”

He further said that in future, along with maintaining the standards of the quality education system, the Delhi government was “aiming to bring changes in the assessment systems”.

“For this, a new board has been set up, which will focus on assessing students round the year instead of three hours examination,” he said.
