Citing a letter written by National Human Rights Commission member Priyank Kanoongo to the Election Commission (EC) over the alleged use of children for the promotion of politics by Chief Minister Atishi, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia on Tuesday demanded that the video posted on X be taken down.
Kanoongo had written to the EC on Monday, drawing its attention to a video posted on X by Atishi and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal where children are heard saying “ab ki baar Kejriwal”.
In his letter, Kanoongo wrote that while he was aware that the model code of conduct had not been imposed in Delhi yet, the EC was “deeply concerned about the participation of children in political campaigning activities”.
“…the Commission requests your good office to kindly take urgent corrective measures to address the instant issue and at the same time, requests to kindly consider issuance of firm guidelines to all the political parties to refrain from using children in any political activities,” he wrote.
Demanding that the post be removed immediately, Bhatia said, “Arvind Kejriwal and Atishi have pushed our innocent children into politics by uploading their videos. This is a violation of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015. Secondly, the guidelines of the Election Commission state that there should be no statements of children, there should be no presence of them, there should be no such activities… This X post should be removed immediately…”
