A 27-day-old infant was rescued from a childless couple in Uttam Nagar on Wednesday — days after his mother reported him missing on October 8, police said. The couple and another woman have been arrested, while two juveniles were apprehended in connection with the case, police said.

Maya (40) had befriended the childless couple. She had spotted a homeless woman living with her newborn child near Pacific Mall in Subhash Nagar. “Maya, along with the couple, hatched the plan. She offered Rs 10,000 each to two juveniles to execute the kidnapping,” said DCP, West, Darade Sharad Bhaskar. Police are yet to find out how much money Maya was offered by the couple to plan and execute the kidnapping.

On October 8, the mother reported her child missing, at Tilak Nagar police station. When police scanned footage of CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity, two persons were spotted arriving on a scooter around 5 am and fleeing with the infant. With the help of the registration number of the two-wheeler, police found that it had been stolen from Naraina in September. They then tracked the vehicle with the help of footage from over 200 CCTV cameras.

“Further probe revealed that one Vikas, who was jailed in another case, had handed over the stolen scooter to one Anil and the latter gave it to one of the juveniles,” said DCP Bhaskar. The two juveniles were subsequently tracked to Uttam Nagar and questioned. Police then came to know about Shubh Karan (36) and Sanyogita (27), who had been married and trying to conceive for several years. Their neighbour Maya had befriended them and agreed to help them procure a child, police said.

While the two juveniles and Shubh Karan were held on Tuesday, police arrested Sanyogita and Maya a day later. The child was rescued and returned to his mother.
