The Gurgaon Police arrested three persons — including a 44-year-old kingpin of organised crime — for illegal possession of arms on Sunday, police said.
According to police, two illegal pistols, one country-made katta, seven live cartridges, and a car were recovered from their possession.
The accused has been identified as Sunil alias Tota, who faces 20 prior cases including murder and robbery, along with two associates — Sandeep (29) and Rohit alias Kalia, officers said.
According to police, the trio were apprehended near a power house at Sector 37 by a team from the Sector 17 Crime Branch.
Tota is a resident of Dhanwapur in the city, while Sandeep and Rohit alias Kalia have been residents of Lakhuwas, police said.
A case under the Arms Act was registered at the Sector 10A police station.
The trio will be produced in court on Monday.
“During questioning, Sunil admitted to being a habitual offender involved in organised crime, including assault and robbery using illegal weapons. He purchased the recovered arms from an associate in Gurgaon for Rs 1 lakh and supplied them to Sandeep and Rohit. The group was planning a robbery and confessed to one incident of assault and extortion in the district”, a police spokesperson said.
Police records showed that Sunil faces 20 prior cases in the district, including murder, attempt to murder, assault, theft, and violations under the Arms Act.
Sandeep has four cases filed against him — one for murder, one for cheating, and two under the Arms Act. Rohit has nine cases across Gurgaon, Mahendragarh, and Rewari, covering attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, murder, assault, cheating, and Arms Act offences.
Further investigation is underway, officials added.
There have been several high-profile arrests in the district of late.
The Gurgaon police’s Special Task Force (STF) arrested one Arun Soni, identified as the chief shooter of the Deepak Nandal gang, from Anupgarh in Rajasthan on Friday.
The police said Soni was wanted in connection with recent firing incidents at Sector 45’s MNR Buildmark office in Gurgaon and Unisys Info Solutions Pvt Ltd in Karnal.
On Sunday, the STF arrested Ankit alias Gogi, a close associate and brother of Soni.
