A 61-year-old woman was strangled and valuables were robbed from her house in Pratap Vihar,Ghaziabad,on Monday.

According to senior police officers, preliminary investigations suggested that Vimla Manuj was strangled after she resisted the robbery attempt, which took place while her husband Aashutosh Manuj was not at home.

Police said the incident took place at 8.30 am. “Vimla lived with her husband,a retired manager with the Railways. Three other tenants lived on the second floor. Jewelery, cash and two mobile phones are missing from Vimla’s house. Her husband had gone to Delhi. So far,we have not been able to determine the number of assailants,” SP (City) S S Yadav said.

According to a complaint filed by Aashutosh at the Vijay Nagar police station, their domestic help discovered Vimla’s body.

“After finishing work at Vimla’s house around 8 am,the help went to the second floor to work in another house. When she returned, she found Vimla in the drawing room and the house ransacked. The help said there were injuries on Vimla’s body,” an officer said.

Officers said it was possible that Vimla knew the people who were were involved in the crime.

“There are no signs of forced entry. So either the assailants rang the front doorbell and then forced their way in when Vimla answered,or they were let in by her. We are looking at the case from all angles and are in the process of questioning the tenants and others living nearby. Further investigations are underway,” the officer said.
