A 17-year-old boy was electrocuted on a waterlogged street in Southeast Delhi’s Taimoor Nagar the same day 34-year-old school teacher Sakshi Ahuja was electrocuted outside the New Delhi Railway Station, said police. The boy had stepped out on Sunday to meet his uncle but was later found dead on the waterlogged street.

The boy has been identified as Sohail Khan, a Bangalore resident who had come to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Camp to stay at his relative’s place. The boy’s body was found by his uncle Jamal Ahmed who then called the police. On the same day, Ahuja died when she suffered an electric shock outside Gate no. 1 of NDLS.

Police said he was found in an “unconscious state on a street in a pool of water” with “electric wires around it (water)” at 5 am. The boy’s body was removed from the puddle later and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Doctors said the boy suffered grievous injuries due to electric current. A crime team was called to the spot for inspection. The route from the ditch to IG Camp was filled with water, said the police, adding that the incident took place because of electric shock from wires lying around.

The FIR lodged in the case states: “This incident has happened due to hasty and negligent action.” Unknown accused have been booked under IPC sections 336 (act endangering life) and 304A (causing death by negligence). While the Delhi Police also mentioned in the FIR that there were loose wires on the ground and the boy died due to negligence, the BSES told The Indian Express that it was an electric wire from a house which killed the boy.

” Preliminary reports suggest that while attempting to navigate a waterlogged street, the deceased person sought support from a channel, which was part of a local resident’s premises. Upon subsequent investigation, no leakage was found from discom’s network,” said a BSES official.

The boy’s family said they were shocked to see his body in a pool of water. “We don’t know exactly what happened but because it was early morning, not many people were around. In Bangalore, he worked odd jobs to support his family,” said Jamal.
