A 23-year-old man from Haryana was arrested in the Capital for allegedly duping thousands of job-seekers of around Rs 6 lakh by promising them employment with the Delhi Metro. The police said the accused Yatender Yadav was apprehended from Lajpat Nagar area on Monday,Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H G S Dhaliwal said.
Around 15,000 to 20,000 application forms with demand drafts or postal orders attached were received by Yadav, amounting to around Rs 6 lakh. The documents were destroyed by Yadav after he came to know that the Metro had approached the police, he said. The arrest was made after a probe into a complaint by the Delhi Metro regarding an advertisement that appeared in Uttarakhand Rozgar Darshan seeking applications for over 2,000 posts in the name of DMRC placement agency,Kotla Mubarakpur.
The Delhi Metro said it had not authorised any such recruitment agency.
During investigations,it came to light that one Yatender had taken up rented premises in Kotla Mubarakpur and used to visit there late at night to collect the forms received through post. Yadav then contacted Negi Prakashan, who publishes Uttrakhand Rozgar Darshan in Bulandshahr to publish a recruitment ad.
Yadav had application forms printed and circulated in UP and Uttarakhand, instructing aspirants to pay a postal order or a DD of Rs 100 for general candidates and Rs 50 for SC/ST candidates. He knew people not residing in Delhi will not come to his office to inquire about the matter,so he published the ads in newspapers with circulation outside Delhi, Dhaliwal said.
