Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar visited Faridabad on Sunday and announced two major schemes that would benefit Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration card holders.

Families who hold BPL ration cards and have an annual income of ₹1.80 lakh or less will no longer have to pay high electricity bills, Khattar said. Previously, if the electricity bills of such families exceeded ₹12,000, they did not receive any benefit on their BPL cards. With the slab removed, electricity bill payments for this income group have been waived. In July, the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam had launched a scheme to waive the outstanding electricity bills of BPL families.

Khattar further stated that the government would ensure the monthly distribution of 2 litres of mustard oil for families that hold BPL ration cards and have an annual income of ₹1.80 lakh or less.

Khattar also praised the government’s achievements in various sectors over the past 10 years while maintaining fiscal responsibility. He emphasised that the government is committed to preventing wrongdoing and has introduced transparency in the recruitment process. He also highlighted initiatives like the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) and anti-substance abuse campaigns, while summarising his two terms in the state.

Khattar said that the percentage of female officers in the police force has increased from 6 per cent to 11 per cent, with a future target of 15 per cent. The government has launched the Haryana Skill Rozgar Corporation for the benefit of the youth, sending the first batch of candidates abroad. Additionally, he said, the government has introduced various pension schemes, including old age pension, widow pension, and disability pension, as well as initiating pensions for unmarried individuals above 45 years with an income less than Rs 3 lakh.

Chief Minister Khattar also highlighted the establishment of the foreign corporation department and the plan to increase the number of seats in MBBS colleges from 700 to 3,100.

Minister of State of Power and Heavy Industries Krishan Pal Gurjar also addressed the gathering and said that in the past nine years, 1.1 lakh jobs have been provided.
