Haryana Assembly elections: Gurgaon sees 57% turnout, 72% in Nuh

Clashes between two groups leading to stone-pelting during the voting process were reported from four places in Nuh district.

Gurgaon district saw 57.2 per cent voter turnout with 8.61 lakh voters exercising their franchise as Haryana went to polls to elect the next state government Saturday. The district has 15,04,949 voters.

As of midnight, in the Gurgaon Assembly constituency, 2.26 lakh (51.2 per cent) of the total 4.4 lakh voters turned up to vote. In 2019 too, the voter turnout was at 51.2 per cent in the constituency.

Meanwhile, in Badshahpur, which recorded the lowest turnout of all the 90 Assembly constituencies in 2019, 2.8 lakh (54 per cent) of the 5.2 lakh voters exercised their voting rights.

The Pataudi (SC) assembly constituency registered polling figures of 61.4 per cent as against 50 per cent in 2019. In Sohna, 68.6 per cent of voters polled, a tad lower than the 70 per cent recorded five years ago.

According to officials, Faridabad district recorded 55.9 per cent voter turnout — up from 54.45 per cent in 2019.

Of the six Assembly constituencies in Faridabad, only two — Badkhal and Faridabad NIT — saw a drop in polling percentage compared to 2019. Faridabad NIT recorded a polling per cent of 60.1 as against 61.42 per cent in 2019, while in Badkhal the figures were 48.3 per cent and 51.30 per cent respectively.

The polling percentage in other centres improved after five years. While Ballabgarh saw 53.3 voter turnout (52 per cent in 2019), Faridabad saw 53.7 per cent (vs 48.20 per cent) and Tigaon 53.6 per cent (vs 53.12 per cent). At 70.6 per cent, Prithla saw an uptick of 7.85 per cent in the turnout figures compared to 2019 when it recorded 62.75 per cent.

The turnout in Nuh district was at 72.1 per cent — slightly higher than the previous Assembly election’s turnout of 71.42 per cent. The Nuh Assembly constituency recorded 73.9 per cent turnout, while Ferozepur Jhirka and Punhana saw 72.9 per cent and 69.5 per cent, respectively.

In the 2019 Assembly elections, the Nuh Assembly constituency recorded a voter turnout of 73.51 per cent, while Ferozepur Jhirka and Punhana saw 70.22 per cent and 70.82 per cent respectively.

In Chandeni village of the Nuh Assembly constituency, supporters of Congress candidate Aftab Ahmed and INLD-BSP candidate Tahir Hussain clashed over allegations of fake voting, resulting in stone-pelting. Similar incidents were reported in the Khwajalikala and Gulalta villages of Punhana.
