The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Monday wrote to Dr M Srinivas, Director, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, seeking action in the harassment complaint of a nursing staff against Dr AK Bisoi, former head of Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS) department.
The NCW said it received a complaint from the AIIMS nursing union, alleging that Dr Bisoi has repeatedly used “vulgar, unprofessional and derogatory language” towards nurses, and made demeaning remarks amounting to character assassination.
“The Commission takes serious note of these allegations, which, if found to be true, constitute sexual harassment at the workplace under the POSH Act,” the NCW stated.
It has also sought an immediate and impartial inquiry into the complaint through the duly constituted Internal Committee (IC) of AIIMS, as mandated under the POSH Act.
“Take appropriate action based on the findings of the IC in accordance with law and the service rules applicable in a time-bound manner. Intimate the Commission at the earliest regarding the action initiated and the status of the inquiry,” it underlined.
