The civic body had constituted the Sewerage Management Cell in July to improve the management, maintenance, and monitoring of sewerage systems in the city. The repair and desilting of sewerage and drainage networks in Gurgaon will begin by December 31 and will be completed by April 2026 to address waterlogging in the city before the next monsoon, Gurugram Municipal Corporation Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya said on Wednesday.

Large parts of Gurgaon were inundated in this year’s unusually heavy monsoon rain, causing severe disruption of daily life.

Dahiya assessed the situation in 40 areas affected by sewage overflow issues at a review meeting of the Sewage Management Cell on Monday.

He directed officials to ensure permanent solutions in areas including Saraswati Enclave, Khandsa, Basai, Naharpur Rupa, Indira Colony, Narsinghpur, Mohammadpur Jharsa, Begampur Khatola, Maidawas, Noorpur Mod, Badshahpur, New Colony, Devilal Colony, Bhawani Enclave, Jharsa, Islampur, Shivaji Nagar, Laxmi Garden, Sector-40, Rajiv Colony, Sector-31, Ghata, Bandhwari, Behrampur, Chakkarpur, Kanhai, Rajendra Park, Surat Nagar, Tekchand Nagar, and Jacobpura.

Desilting work is already under way in several of these areas, and the remaining places will see work begin before December 31, the Cell was told.

A Corporation spokesperson said: “In Rajendra Park, Surat Nagar, and Tekchand Nagar, internal line cleaning is ongoing, and a tender for laying a new line to the Jahajgarh Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) has been allotted. Work will start next week.”

Also, the spokesperson said, “A proposal for a 900 mm line to the Dhanwapur STP (sewage treatment plant) has been approved by the Finance and Contract Committee, and the tender process is in progress. Continuous water drainage is being managed through suction tankers in these areas.”
