Green drive to mark Queen’s Baton Relay

To mark the Commonwealth Games Queens Baton Relay that was flagged off in London,P K Tripathi,Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit,launched a plantation drive at Aya Nagar city forest on Friday.

To mark the Commonwealth Games Queens Baton Relay that was flagged off in London,P K Tripathi,Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit,launched a plantation drive at Aya Nagar city forest on Friday. The drive is also aimed at highlighting the concept of ‘Green Games’ that Delhi plans to hold next year.

Similar plantation drives were launched at the Malikpur and Daurala city forests as well. While 20,000 saplings were planted at Aya Nagar across a 40 -acre area,another 40,000 saplings were planted at Malikpur and Daurala.

The initiative at Aya Nagar was jointly organised by the Department of Forests and Wildlife,Delhi government and the CWG 2010 Organising Committee. The species planted at the three city forests were Acacia leucophloea,Aegle marmalos,Cordia myxa and the more common arjun,siris,jamun,peepal,shahtoot and neem.

Also present at the event at Aya Nagar,were local Member of Parliament Ramesh Kumar,area MLA Balram Tanwar and Environment Secretary Dharmendra.

The plantation drive was held simultaneously with another plantation drive at London to mark the Baton Relay.
