A 55-year-old woman died and her husband was injured after a dumper truck hit their scooter in Greater Noida West on Sunday morning.
Police said the incident took place around 10.30 am near Mahagun Mart, after a stray bull crossed their path, causing the husband to swerve.
The couple, Raj Narayan and his wife Sarita, lived in Raksha Della Society, Gaur City 2.
They were returning home after offering prayers at a nearby temple and had stopped briefly to buy some fruits from a roadside vendor. When they resumed their journey, a stray bull suddenly appeared in front of their two-wheeler, forcing Narayan to swerve to avoid hitting the bull.
Right then, a dumper struck their two-wheeler from behind — flinging the couple onto the road and leaving them critically injured.
Passersby immediately rushed to help and informed the police, who arrived shortly after and took the couple to a nearby hospital. While Sarita was declared dead on arrival by doctors, Narayan has sustained multiple injuries and is undergoing treatment.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Bisrakh Station House Officer (SHO) Manoj Kumar Singh said, “They were out to run some chores when the incident took place. After visiting the temple, they stopped at a fruit vendor. The accident happened shortly after they started riding again.”
Police said that the dumper truck has been seized and its driver is being questioned. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination after completing the necessary legal formalities. An investigation into the matter is underway.
