There is enough food for thought when judicial officers meet to discuss how to better the city courts and their functioning, but all other kind of snack needs fit within the Rs-25-per-person budget set by the Delhi government.

An office memorandum, issued by the government recently, reiterates that all committees comprising judges have a limited pocket money of Rs 25 for every member, and a ceiling of Rs 2 lakh has been fixed for committees across the six district court complexes.

Following this,District and Sessions Judge Sunita Gupta issued a circular to chairpersons of different committees and boards at Tis Hazari court complex, informing them about the refreshment budget and asking them to “avoid the additional expenditure in the meetings”.

The judge-in-charge has asked the judicial officers to pass on the requisite directives to the administration and general branches of the court complex, regarding the number of members of any committee who would be attending the meeting.

“You are requested to adhere to aforesaid office memorandum and direct the branch concerned, dealing with a particular committee or board,to mention the number of participants in the meeting for which the refreshment is scheduled to be arranged,” read the circular.

Copies of the circular have been sent to all the heads of the committees and in-charges of all branches, besides administrative civil judge of north, central and west districts.

At present, several committees are functional to address various issues. Some of the panels are: vigilance committee, purchase committee, sexual harassment committee, building maintenance committee and computer committee.
