Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh rolled out the ‘Government on Wheels’ campaign on Saturday by leading a 47-km-long inspection of the Outer Ring Road – the city’s vital lifeline – to identify issues affecting the public daily.
Under the campaign, officials from all departments would travel together in a bus to inspect major roads and public spaces as one team. This would allow for instant coordination, cross-departmental accountability, and faster decision-making, said officials.
“Governance cannot remain locked inside meeting rooms. If the public lives on the road, we must work on the road. The ‘Government on Wheels’ initiative is about solutions, accountability, and delivering visible results for the people of Delhi,” said Singh.
“Too often, officials sit in their offices and list out problems on paper without offering real solutions. This is why we have launched this new concept in Delhi – bringing all departments together in one bus, on one road, at one time. When they see the reality, when they witness how people are suffering, then the solutions become immediate and actionable,” he added.
During the four-hour drive on Saturday, Singh stopped at multiple choke points and stretches where commuters often face daily hardships. Encroachment on footpaths, stretches of uneven roads, neglected drainage systems, and sanitation gaps were identified. At each point, officials were given strict directions to prepare time-bound solutions.
“The inspection was not only about highlighting deficiencies but also showcasing the government’s determination to transform Delhi’s infrastructure… The approach will also be replicated in other major stretches to ensure effective delivery of services,” said Singh.
Officials said the initiative has been designed to ensure that everyday grievances of the people – whether potholes, traffic bottlenecks, or open drains – are addressed on priority. “By seeing such problems through the eyes of the public, officials will now be better positioned to deliver practical solutions,” said an official.
