A Ghaziabad businessman has been booked for allegedly duping the daughter of former Union minister and BJP leader retired General V K Singh of Rs 3.5 crore, police said.
According to Ghaziabad Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abhishek Srivastava, Yogja Singh alleged that she had entered into an agreement with the businessman to purchase a house at Rajnagar Colony for Rs 5.5 crore in 2014.
“But despite the payment of Rs 3.5 crore, the seller failed to finalise the sales deed,” ACP said citing Singh’s complaint. As per the FIR lodged at the Kavi Nagar police station against the businessman under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the BNS, Singh paid him Rs 10 lakh soon after they entered into the deal. “After the initial payment, (the businessman) carried out the renovation of the alleged property and demanded another Rs 4.50 lakh. Rs 1 crore each was transferred to the investor’s account in 2018, 2019 and 2023, respectively. But even after the payments, (he) failed to finalise the sale deed and started demanding more money,” the FIR stated.
In August, it added, the businessman sent her a legal notice containing false information.
Singh said she filed a response to the alleged notice accusing the businessman of attempting to misappropriate the funds she had paid. “She alleged that (he) had fabricated a receipt to support an eviction suit against her. It was also revealed that a loan had been taken against the property, and efforts were being made to increase the loan amount, which Singh had no prior knowledge of,” the FIR added.
