About 60 roads in Lutyens’ Delhi and other parts connecting Pragati Maidan, historical and heritage sites like Akshardham, Red Fort and Rajghat will get a mega makeover ahead of the G20 summit, set to take place from September 8 to 10 at the Pragati Maidan convention centre.

The L-G Secretariat has asked the departments concerned to finish the work by July 31. These roads come under the Public Works Department (PWD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Some of these are Purana Quila Road, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, Sachiwalay Road, Satyagrah Marg, Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg, Janpath, Kartavya Path, Noida Link Road, NITI Marg, Panchsheel Marg, Lodhi Road and Africa Avenue.

Work on some of these roads has already started and will start soon on others, said officials. Under the redevelopment work, the departments will improve the road infrastructure by clearing potholes, repairing damaged black tops and footpaths, central verges, and introducing green cover. Non-functional street lights, signages, and electricity poles will be fixed.

Every road stretch will have police booth facilitations, utilities like public toilets and water kiosks. Besides, departments have also been asked to increase green belts across the roads, and open patches with potted flower pots, plants and seasonal flowers.

The L-G also asked the PWD to ensure no waterlogging during the summit and directed it to fix the crucial points and mitigate flooding issues by mapping resources.
