The Delhi government will offer free Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) coaching to students at the Delhi Model Virtual School (DMVS) from the upcoming academic session onwards.

The government started a fully-online school last year, where students from any part of the country can take classes and write exams under the newly-formed Delhi Board of School Education. The government said that at present, the online school has students from 13 states and union territories.

The decision to provide free coaching to these students was taken in a review meeting on Sunday. Education minister Atishi also directed officials to prepare a five-year action plan for the virtual school.

She said the government aims to make quality education more accessible and inclusive. “The DMVS has all the advantages of a physical institution but is virtual. Today, students from 13 states and union territories, including Delhi, are studying here, and this year our focus is to expand its reach. Our goal is to ensure that quality education is easily available to everyone, regardless of their location,” she said.

The Delhi government had earlier started free coaching for students from disadvantaged backgrounds, but it was stalled last year after files relating to payments for coaching centres were not cleared by officials. The government said earlier this month that the programme would be restarted soon.

The school will also offer job-oriented courses like coding, digital media and design, finance and accounting, along with short-term and advanced courses designed by industry experts from the coming session.

Delhi government officials said the virtual school functions like a full-time regular online school with teaching-learning activities and assessments, and provides an interactive virtual environment to students. Admission is open from Class IX onwards.
