Five juveniles were apprehended for robbing and murdering a senior citizen in West Delhis Vikaspuri area last week. After detaining them,police claimed to have solved three burglary cases.
On questioning,the accused revealed that they were fascinated by peoples luxurious lifestyles and joined their gang leader Rashid (22),who is yet to be arrested. Rashid worked as a labourer at tent houses in West Delhi and headed the gang at night,police said.
Police said the youngest member of the gang is a 13-year-old boy who would wriggle his way into balconies and windows and let other gang members in the targeted house.
Police said Rashid would instruct his gang members to target houses where female senior citizens lived alone.
On June 20,82-year-old Joginder Kaur was found dead in her ransacked house in Vikaspuri.
A team under the supervision of Special Staff Inspector Raj Kumar was formed to investigate the crime. We received a tip-off that those involved in the murder on June 20 would gather at A Block park in Vikaspuri. A trap was laid and the juveniles detained, said Additional Commissioner of Police (West) V Renganathan.
Rashid went to the first floor of Kaurs house with one of the juveniles. He removed the windowpanes using a knife and screwdriver. They asked Kaur to hand over her valuables.
When she refused and attempted to raise an alarm,they attacked her with a sharp weapon.
In the scuffle,she fell down and Rashid strangled her. Kaur sustained a fracture in her neck and succumbed injuries.
Police recovered house-breaking implements,two SIM cards,a pair of silver anklets and fixed deposit certificates from their possession.
