Calling on Delhi’s voters to avail of the “big opportunity” to free themselves of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday said the BJP is the only option to rid the Capital of the darkness of this AAPda’s (disaster) misgovernance and corruption.

“The 5th (of February) is a big opportunity for the people of Delhi to get free from Kejriwal’s AAP… Press the lotus button on February 5 and get rid of Kejriwal’s AAP forever… Kejriwal’s government is a government of lies, deceit, breach of promise and corruption,” he said at a public meeting in Kalkaji.

Shah also took on the former Delhi CM over allegations of Haryana having “poisoned” the city’s water. “… Yesterday, Kejriwal, citing the Jal Board report, made a statement that the Haryana government has mixed poison in the Yamuna water that comes to Delhi… the Jal Board people said that Kejriwal is lying.”

In response to Shah, the AAP said: “The BJP, in its desperation, released a letter through DJB CEO yesterday which confirms that the charges levelled by… Kejriwal are true…”

“We challenge BJP to form a joint team of engineers from Haryana and Delhi, with Election Commission oversight, to measure ammonia levels at every crucial point — from Haryana’s water release to Delhi’s entry points at Wazirabad and Palla,” it added.

Back at the meeting, Shah took on both the AAP and the Congress. “During Anna Hazare’s movement, he (Kejriwal) had said we are not political people, we will not form a political party, but he formed the party… He had said that we will not take the support of the Congress party, but took it.”

“He had said he would not take security, car and bungalow, but he took security, car and got a Sheesh Mahal worth crores built… Kejriwal ji had said we will not do corruption, but he committed a liquor scam worth thousands of crores of rupees. He opened liquor shops in front of temples, gurudwaras, schools… and went to jail,” Shah said.

Pitching BJP as a party that “believes in the tradition and faith” of India, Shah cited the Kartarpur Sahib corridor and the Maha Kumbh Mela as examples.

“In 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji took a dip in the Ganga and provided all facilities including gas connection, toilets, electricity, free food, free treatment to crores of poor people of the country… But the Congress party always insults Sanatan Dharma,” he said.

Taking on Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, he added, “Kharge sahab, if you do not have faith in Sanatan Dharma… do not make fun of crores of Sanatanis… Just yesterday, I took a dip in the Ganga during the Maha Kumbh, but as I took the dip, Kharge ji caught a cold. He is saying that taking a dip in the Ganga will not benefit the poor. Kharge sahab, you did not take a dip in your entire life, but what good did you do for the poor?”
