The Faridabad Police Thursday arrested a man for allegedly attempting to run over a policeman with his car.
The accused, who was driving a vehicle with tinted windows and without a number plate, was apprehended by personnel from the Town No. 2 police outpost team after a dramatic chase, a spokesperson stated.
Authorities have also recovered the vehicle involved in the incident, it was added.
According to police, the incident unfolded on the evening of April 3 when a traffic police team was conducting vehicle checks near Metro Mor in the city.
Constable Saddiq, stationed at the KGP police outpost and assigned to Town No. 2, reported that a speeding car approached the team. When signaled to stop for inspection, the driver not only ignored the directive but accelerated toward the officers.
The car struck Constable Saddiq and sped off, narrowly missing the others, and this led to a pursuit.
During the chase, the accused made three additional attempts to ram his vehicle into the officers on his trail on motorcycles but was finally apprehended near Fagna Chowk.
Following his arrest, a case was registered at Kotwali police station for the offence of attempt to murder.
During questioning, police said the accused said he owned a mobile phone shop, and was traveling from Ajronda Chowk to his home in Dabua at the time.
He was produced in court Friday and subsequently ordered to be sent to judicial custody.
