Event around Bharat Jodo Yatra, merit-based appointments: How Delhi Congress is gearing up for 2024
Merit, according to party sources, would be a key factor when it comes to appointment of the team which will lead the party into the Lok Sabha polls. In addition to new faces, sources said, the new team will also have “equal representation from all sections of society”.
Observers will be appointed by state Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely.
From organising an event around the achievements of Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo’ and ‘Bharat Nyay’ yatras to forging an “inclusive team” from the bottom up – the Congress is planning to ring in the new year with its eye set firmly on the Lok Sabha elections.
In an exercise which will begin unfolding beginning January, the party’s Delhi unit will put in place a mix of “meritorious” old and new faces as part of its organisational hierarchy in the capital based on ground feedback from observers appointed by its state chief Arvinder Singh Lovely.

“The appointment of the new team will be based on feedback from the ground; older party functionaries as well as individuals put in charge of the exercise will submit their reports regarding the appointment of 280 block presidents in early January after which Lovely will interact with them regarding the way forward,” a senior party functionary said.
Merit, according to party sources, would be a key factor when it comes to appointment of the team which will lead the party into the Lok Sabha polls. In addition to new faces, sources said, the new team will also have “equal representation from all sections of society”.
According to party insiders, while old hands – ex-MLAs and office bearers – would play “a significant role” in the entire exercise and would be consulted regarding the appointments, those who had served on any post for more than five years were likely to be dropped.
The party was also, sources said, in the process of planning a “significant event” around Rahul’s nationwide Bharat Jodo and the upcoming Bharat Nyay yatra outreach programs.
“As per the high command’s instructions, the Delhi Congress, like other state units, will ensure a significant, grassroots-level event around the Bharat Jodo and Nyay yatras revolving around showcasing its achievements both to party workers as well as the people,” a leader said.
