Amid alarming pollution levels in the capital, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai wrote to Chief Secretary Dharmendra urging him to oversee the coordination and execution of the GRAP measures. Vehicular restrictions, controlling construction dust and curbing industrial pollution, among other measures, need to be enforced strictly without exception, he stated.
“While the AQI has shown improvement in the last few days, we must not allow our efforts to slow down or weaken. The situation continues to demand urgent and sustained action from all concerned departments,” read the letter. Rai emphasised that all departments must submit daily action taken reports as well as strict penalties should be imposed on violators of pollution control norms.
He stated that all government departments must be directed to engage RWAs, trade and market associations, citizens groups and NGOs to spread awareness of eco-friendly practices among the public.
