A social media influencer and YouTuber was allegedly beaten up by Bigg Boss OTT winner and fellow YouTuber Elvish Yadav and 10 others in Gurgaon over social media rivalry, police said. An FIR has been registered against Yadav, they added.
According to police, Sagar Thakur, a 25-year-old Delhi resident, was assaulted by Yadav around 12.30 am on Friday.
Inspector Rajender Singh, SHO Sector 53 police station said Yadav had called Thakur to Southpoint Mall on Golf Course Road to talk. “It was at a shop owned by Yadav’s acquaintance… the moment he came in, he started beating Thakur up,” he said.
A purported video of the incident shows Yadav entering the room and beating up the victim as he greets him. Thakur falls to the ground and Yadav and his group are seen assaulting the man. In another video on X posted by Thakur on his account Maxtern, he stated that he went to Gurgaon to meet Yadav alone who assaulted him, along with his friends, and threatened to kill him. He said that he sustained injuries in his mouth.
Yadav, however, told The Indian Express that the victim threatened to kill his family. “The incident took place in the heat of the moment,” he added.
In his police complaint, Thakur said that he has actively been producing content since 2017 and has known Yadav since 2021. “With over 1.6 million subscribers on YouTube, 8.5 lakh followers on Instagram, and 2.4 lakh followers on X, I have garnered recognition and accolades in the gaming community for my entertainment-based content.
Over the last few months, Elvish fan pages spread hate… leaving me distressed. I was asked by Yadav to meet but I thought it would be a verbal discussion. When he came to the store, he and his 8-10 goons, who were drunk, started beating me and using abusive language. Elvish Yadav tried to break my spine…,” he alleged.
The FIR was registered at Sector 53 police station in Gurgaon under IPC sections 147,149, 323, and 506.
“They have been vying with each other on YouTube and their followers would pick on each other on social media. We have collected the footage and an investigation is underway,” said Inspector Singh.
Police said Thakur’s medico-legal test report was taken and he sustained four minor injuries in the incident.
