An 18-year-old woman, employed at a private firm in Delhi, allegedly died by suicide at her residence in Dwarka on March 23.
According to the police, she allegedly took the extreme step when her parents and siblings were away.
Her family told the police that the young woman was depressed over a broken relationship with a distant cousin, whom she had met two years ago during a visit to their hometown for a family function.
According to the police, the woman’s relatives said that she became increasingly withdrawn and depressed in the weeks leading up to her death.
The parents claimed that their daughter recently shaved her head, allegedly at the request of her lover who had complimented her appearance.
However, she allegedly told her family that she had chopped her hair off due to extensive hair damage, said an officer.
The police said that her social media activity suggested she might have been experiencing emotional distress.
The police said that phone records indicate she had called her mother shortly before her death and also tried to contact the man she was allegedly involved with, but the call went unanswered.
The woman’s relatives alleged that the end of the relationship and the man’s alleged decision to block her contact contributed to her mental state.
