Days after a 36-year-old man died of “accidental electrocution” in Dwarka’s Uttam Nagar, his brother has approached the police alleging that it was a potential case of foul play, police said on Friday, adding that an FIR has been lodged in the matter.

On July 13, the Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital in Uttam Nagar had informed the police that one Karan Dev had reportedly died from electrocution. He was declared brought dead at the hospital, as per the Medico-Legal Case (MLC) report filed by the hospital.

“The patient was declared dead on arrival… and was shifted to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for postmortem. At that time, no allegations were raised by family members. who did not wish to go ahead with the postmortem. However, taking into account the age of the deceased and to rule out any unnatural circumstances, a postmortem examination was conducted,” said Dwarka DCP Ankit Singh.

On July 16, the deceased’s brother, Kunal, approached the police allegedly with concerns about the role of Karan’s wife and his cousin in the death, said police. Acting on his statement, a preliminary inquiry was launched. “Based on the findings of the probe and materials gathered during the inquest proceedings, a murder case was registered,” said an officer.

Police said that they are still questioning the two. “We suspect they killed the victim to continue their illicit relationship… They may have wrapped a naked wire around his wrist and electrocuted him,” said an officer.
