Delhi Police has arrested a 39-year-old accountant working with a footwear brand in Noida for allegedly kidnapping an 11-month-old child from outside his house in Southeast Delhi’s Jaitpur area. The accused, Naveen Mishra, was allegedly upset that he and his wife couldn’t have a son and decided to kidnap the boy, police said.

Police said they worked out the case within 24 hours by rescuing the baby and arresting the accused.

The incident took place around 8.30 pm Wednesday. According to the police, the mother of the child runs a salon from her house and had asked her eight-year-old daughter to take the boy outside as he was crying. The accused, however, took away the infant from the girl’s arms.

Rajesh Deo, DCP (Southeast), said the accused came on a bike. “Teams were sent to rescue the baby as we thought the kidnapper might harm him. One of the CCTVs revealed the number plate of the bike used in the crime. We tried to trace the owner. In the meantime, the wife of the accused came to the station and returned the baby,” he added.

Naveen was arrested and he confessed that he was passing by the road when he saw the baby crying. “He took the child away as he does not have a son. When he found out the police were searching for the minor, he panicked and asked his wife to take the boy to the police,” said Deo.
