Free WiFi across Delhi was a promise made by the AAP before the polls. Shastri said the government is evaluating various models used by cities with extensive WiFi coverage such as New York, Shanghai and London. Among many models under consideration is a one that entails converting one-fifth of Delhi’s electricity poles into “smart poles” on which WiFi antennas may be mounted.

Shastri said the government is evaluating many models including those working on fibre optics. The government is expected to hold a consultation with various stakeholders later this month. ENS
