As the festival season sets in with Dussehra, and devotees are expected to flock to Ramleela Ground and the Red Fort areas, the Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory Sunday, saying they will close some routes from Monday until October 3.
The Delhi Traffic Police urged commuters to use public transport, especially the metro, as the Delhi Gate and Jama Masjid stations are close to all these locations.
“The festival of Ramlila & Dussehra Parva will be celebrated at the grounds in front of Red Fort, Delhi, from 22nd September 2025 to 3rd October 2025. During this period, three major Ramlilas (Lav Kush Ramlila, Nav Shri Dharmik Ramlila and Shri Dharmik Ramlila) will be organised along with joy rides and food stalls. A large number of devotees, visitors, and VIPs are expected to attend these events daily,” the advisory said.
According to the advisory, people should avoid Netaji Subhash Marg, which is in front of the Red Fort.
As of now, only commercial and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) vehicles have been asked to divert their routes around the Delhi Gate area between 5 pm and 12 am until October 3.
All commercial vehicles and DTC buses will be diverted from Delhi Gate Chowk, Daryaganj, and Chatta Rail Chowk between 5 pm and 12 am from September 22 to October 3, instead of moving towards Red Fort.
Traffic movement will be restricted on Netaji Subhash Marg (Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk) and Nishad Raj Marg during the event, the advisory said. The alternative route from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk will be via Shanti Van and Hanuman Setu. While returning from Chatta Rail Chowk towards Delhi Gate, commuters have been advised to take a route via the Salimgarh bypass.
Regarding parking in the areas near the Red Fort and Ramlila Ground, the advisory said that various sections, including ASI Parking at Madhav Das Park (2A Parking), Tikona Park Parking Space (No 3 Parking), and Sunehari Masjid Parking (T-5 Parking), will be available for visitors.
Organisers, however, will have separate parking spaces, with Nav Dharmik Committee members allocated the area near Lahori Gate and Ticket Ghar at Red Fort. Nav Shri Dharmik Committee members can park their vehicles near 15 August Park and Opp. Rampart, and Lav Kush Committee members have been allotted space in the 4A Parking Area.
Separate exit routes for reserved parking vehicles have also been allocated. Nav Dharmik and Nav Shri Dharmik Committee vehicles will leave via Gyan Path, and vehicles of the Lav Kush Committee can exit on Netaji Subhash Marg.
The advisory also said that in case of traffic congestion, private vehicles will be diverted, and they will be rerouted from Chhatta Rail Chowk, T-Point Subhash Marg, and Delhi Gate.
