Delhi: Rs 60,000 stolen in two snatching incidents, says police

In two separate incidents, more than Rs 60,000 was robbed from two persons before they could deposit the money in a bank.

In the first incident, a man was robbed of money he was saving for his daughter’s wedding, in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area.

Police said Chaman Lal was carrying Rs 25,000 in demonetised currency notes.

“Lal was carrying his daughter’s wedding cards in his hand and Rs 1,000 notes in his pocket,” said a police officer.

Police said Lal was walking on Kondli Road at 9 pm when a “person talking on the mobile about shooting people in an encounter” approached him from behind.

According to police, the man stopped and asked Lal: “Why are you walking alone? You must have some cash and this is not a safe area.”

“Thinking he is a policeman, Lal took out the bundle of notes. The man snatched the money and fled,” said a senior police officer.

A case has been registered and investigation is underway. The incident took place near a school that did not have any CCTV cameras, said police.

In another incident, a staff nurse at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital, Gurmeet Kaur, was robbed of Rs 39,000, which she meant to deposit in a bank central Delhi’s Kamla Market area.

Police said that at 7.40 am, two bike-borne men came from behind and fled with her bag.

They also took away her mobile phone and some bank documents.

The incident took place near Zakir Husain Delhi College, said police.

Rs 25,000 stolen from man’s car, thieves shoot at him

New Delhi: A 37-year-old man was shot in the leg while chasing two men who stole his bag containing Rs 25,000 in cash, police said.

The incident took place in southwest Delhi’s Ramphal Chowk on Monday morning, said police.

Police said the man, Satyapal, was on his way home from the gym when the two assailants stole his bag. ENS
