Delhi Police rolls out traffic restrictions, diversions for G-20

In view of the G-20 Summit, the Delhi Police has put in place a slew of restrictions, diversions apart from deploying around 10,000 personnel on the ground to ensure smooth flow of traffic in the capital.

In a press conference Friday, Special Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Zone 2, SS Yadav, said movement on roads and stretches in New Delhi and other surrounding areas will be highly regulated and vehicles not destined for the city will be diverted towards the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways and other routes.

Said Yadav, “Heavy, Medium and Light Goods Vehicles will not be allowed to enter… goods vehicles carrying essential commodities and having a valid ‘No Entry Permission’ will be allowed to enter.”

He added that interstate buses will be allowed to enter the capital and all buses will have their terminating points on the Ring Road. “Buses already present in Delhi will operate on Ring Road and the road network beyond Ring Road towards the borders of Delhi,” said Yadav.

Police said buses will be allowed to exit Delhi and general traffic, including all types of commercial vehicles and buses already present in Delhi will be allowed on Ring Road and road network beyond Ring Road towards Delhi’s borders.

Auto rickshaws and taxis will also be allowed to ply on the road network outside areas like Connaught Place and other spots in New Delhi district. “… taxis carrying bonafide residents and tourists having valid bookings in hotels located inside New Delhi district will be allowed on roads inside New Delhi district”.

On movement towards the Airport and New Delhi and Old Delhi Railway Stations, police said the same will be facilitated but passengers are advised to take the suggested routes and keep sufficient time on their hands.

“Over 10,000 Delhi Police personnel will be deployed to facilitate traffic and for security purposes,” Yadav told media persons.

Added the Special CP, “Bonafide residents, authorised vehicles and essential service providers will have to carry documents to prove their identity and vehicles dealing with housekeeping, catering and other work inside hotels and hospital at New Delhi district will be allowed after due identification”.

Dedicated Ambulance Service

Yadav said that a specialised Ambulance Assistance Control Room has been installed and will be made operations from 12 AM on the intervening night of September 7 and 8 till September 11 midnight and the number will be 6828400604/112. “Around 20 junctions have been identified for passing of ambulances and traffic inspectors will handle these areas on two-wheelers,” said Yadav.

A virtual helpdesk to facilitate traffic has also been set up and the same will provide information about road diversions, closures, traffic, travel advisories in order to help commuters navigate the city and avoid any delays. “The virtual help desk will also provide information to delegates and tourists and further information can also be made available on MayMyIndia and Google Map Services”.

Further, the New Delhi district will be termed as the “Controlled Zone-1” from September 8, 5 AM to 11:59 PM on September 10. “The entire area inside Ring Road will be considered as ‘Regulated Zone’… Parts of North and Central Delhi, around Rajghat, DDU Marg, ISBT Kashmere Gate, IP flyover, Shanti Van Chowk, will be treated as ‘Controlled Zone 2’ during the same period”.

Metro services, meanwhile, will be available for commuters. “Boarding and de-boarding at Supreme Court Metro Station will not be permitted from 5 AM on September 9 to 11 PM on September 10,” said the officer.
