The Delhi Police on Tuesday busted a prostitution racket allegedly run by a woman in Delhi’s Jagatpuri area and arrested three women, officials said.
The police said that based on a tip-off they carried out a raid at the rented apartment of the accused woman, Rachna, 47, at Layalpur locality of Jagatpuri where she was allegedly operating the brothel.
According to investigators, a police official went inside the flat posing as a customer and nabbed Rachna along with two other women, aged 27 and 34 respectively.
“Rachna knew these women beforehand. She used to post their photos on her WhatsApp status, and interested clients used to approach her through a text message,” an investigation officer said.
According to a police source, Rachna who has been living in the flat for two years claimed that she was under financial crisis ever since her husband’s death 12 years ago and hence decided to run the brothel. The police said that the racket has been active for the past one year.
“As of now, investigation is going on to verify the accused’s whereabouts before she had come to the flat and find out how many more women had she employed in the racket,” he said.
A case has been registered at the Jagatpuri police station under Sections 3 (managing a brothel), 4 (living on earnings from prostitution) and 8 (soliciting for the purpose of prostitution) of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, the police said.
