Vice President C P Radhakrishnan will release a coffee table book on the first elected Indian Speaker of the Central Legislative Assembly, Vithalbhai Patel, in the Delhi Assembly on the 75th Constitution Day on November 26, an official statement said on Sunday.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta held a high-level meeting with senior officers of Delhi Police, Public Works Department, Horticulture Department and the Assembly Secretariat on Sunday to review arrangements for the event, it said.

Noting that Constitution Day is an important reminder of the nation's democratic ideals, Gupta directed all departments to ensure flawless coordination for a dignified and smooth event, it said.

The air quality in the national capital remained in the 'very poor' category on Sunday with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 391, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.

According to the CPCB's Sameer app, 19 monitoring stations in Delhi reported 'severe' air quality and the remaining 19 stations recorded 'very poor' air quality with readings above 300.

Delhi's air quality is likely to be in the 'very poor' category from Monday to Wednesday, according to the Air Quality Early Warning System.

The Delhi Police has arrested a 30-year-old proclaimed offender wanted in a 2016 robbery case involving a foreign tourist, officials said on Sunday.

Rahul Bhardwaj, a resident of Kapashera, was declared a proclaimed offender by a city court on July 19 after he failed to join the trial despite securing bail in the case, they said.

According to police, in August 2016, a foreign tourist reported that a man posing as a cab driver offered her a ride from Gurugram to Chhatarpur in Delhi.

An Afghan national was arrested with more than 215 grams of 'charas' in Lajpat Nagar area here, an official said on Sunday. The accused, Najib Ahmed, allegedly came to India in 2014 and continued to stay even after his visa expired in 2015, he added.

According to the police, information was received that a foreign national was actively supplying charas in Lajpat Nagar area.

"Acting on the tip-off, a raiding team was formed and a trap was laid at the identified location on November 21. During the operation, the suspect arrived at the spot on a scooter, after which he was apprehended," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Hemant Tiwari said.

The Delhi Police cracked three murder cases this week, including two that had initially yielded no leads, following sustained technical analysis, field intelligence and months-long groundwork.

In the first case, the disappearance of a man reported missing on November 6 led investigators to an unidentified body recovered from a drain in IP Colony. The body was identified through technical analysis and family verification on November 12. A post-mortem report released on November 17 confirmed it was a homicide case, according to the police.

A man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly killing an 11-year-old girl a day after she was reported missing by her parents. At 12.22 pm on Saturday, the police were notified of a girl’s body being found in Northeast Delhi.

“The man owed her parents money. When the girl went to ask him for the money, he took her to an isolated place and killed her. The postmortem report is awaited to ascertain whether any sexual assault took place,” said an officer.

After she was reported missing on Friday, police, while reviewing the CCTV footage, noticed the girl walking towards a factory. Minutes later, she was seen walking away with the accused.

Worried over the possible withdrawal of recognition by the National Medical Commission (NMC), parents of students enrolled at Faridabad’s Al Falah University met senior faculty members on Saturday. They also submitted a representation to the Vice-Chancellor, expressing concern over the institution’s future.

Why is the university under scanner?

The university has come under the scanner after three doctors working there were identified as suspects in the November 10 Delhi blast. The NAAC had issued a show cause notice to the university stating that its accreditation has expired and also sought to know why it should not recommend to the NMC that the institution’s recognition to offer programmes be withdrawn.

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU), meanwhile, has suspended its membership over concerns about its “good standing”.

The developments have prompted anxiety among students and their families about continuation of studies, career prospects and validity of degrees.

Delhi’s air quality remained in the “very poor” category on Sunday morning, with the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 381, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Data from the CPCB’s Sameer app showed that 13 monitoring stations reported “severe” air quality, while 25 others recorded readings above 300, falling into the “very poor” range.

The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 26 degree Celsius, with shallow fog predicted in parts of the city.
