At the moment, some districts have seen complaints of elderly patients being asked to shift to government facilities, even if they want to isolate at home instead. The Indian Express spoke to several district officials, and while most said they were following the Union Health Ministry guidelines issued in April 2021, the current spurt in omicron has led to some amount of ambiguity.
Delhi daily Covid cases double, 7 of 8 deaths over 60 years, 3 double jabbed
Delhi recorded more deaths in a single day than it did in the months of September, October and November as Covid cases continued to surge, driven largely by the Omicron variant. A senior health official, however, told The Indian Express that of the eight who died in the past 24 hours, seven were above 60 and most had severe comorbidities. Three had received both doses of the Covid vaccine.
“Of the eight who died in the past 24 hours, three had received both shots of the Covid vaccine, but had significant comorbid conditions. Two were above the age of 75 with several other age-related complications. One patient was 59 years old but was suffering from a serious chronic disease. The rest were between the ages of 60 and 75,” said the official.
Delhi: Draft plan to reuse water, manage supply
The Draft Regional Plan 2041 for the NCR, which was recently made public, makes a slew of suggestions to deal with the supply, use, and reuse of water, and the management and use of water bodies in NCR.
It suggests exploring possibilities of bringing seawater through pipelines to Delhi-NCR “from the nearest seawater source,” to meet non-potable water requirements for large industries and commercial establishments, “so the freshwater available in NCR can be reserved for potable purposes”. To augment water supply, it also suggests that 300 tube wells can be constructed along floodplains in NCR.
The National Capital Region Planning Board, which functions under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, has invited objections to and suggestions on the draft plan by January 7.
