The Delhi-Haryana-Rajasthan Rapid Rail corridor is set to get the green light from the Cabinet soon, Union Power and Housing Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Friday.

Khattar was referring to the part of Delhi-Alwar Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor that stretches from Sarai Kale Khan to Shahjahanpur–Neemrana–Behror, via Gurgaon and extends for 106 km.

The Delhi-Alwar 164-km rapid rail corridor, which will be a mix of elevated tracks and tunnels, is slated to be implemented in three phases. The corridor, once complete, is expected to reduce travel time between these places to 117 minutes – a little less than two hours.

In the first phase, work has been taken up to complete the Delhi-Neemrana 106-km stretch. The RRTS will have its Delhi base at Sarai Kale Khan, and will connect Munirka, Aerocity and move via Gurugram, Sotanala, and Rewari to reach Alwar in Rajasthan covering 22 stations.

Khattar made the remark while speaking after the bhoomi pujan ceremony of the first phase of the Gurugram metro project at Sector-44, along with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, on Friday.

The new 28.5 km metro corridor in Gurgaon will connect Millennium City Center to Cyber City and extend to Dwarka Expressway, and features 27 elevated stations.

Speaking at the Gurugram University Campus Auditorium, Khattar highlighted the rapid growth of metro services across India. “In 2014, metro lines spanned 248 km in five cities. Today, we have 1,066 km across 24 cities, with 970 km more under construction,” he said, adding that India is on track to lead globally in metro service availability.

Chief Minister Saini described the metro rail project as a “historic day” for Gurugram, stating it would reduce traffic congestion, cut travel time, lower pollution, and create jobs.

“This metro is a symbol of progress, giving Gurugram a new identity,” Saini said.

On the Gurgaon metro rail, the CM said, the corridor is set to include key stations at Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Udyog Vihar, Palam Vihar, and the Railway Station, with completion expected within four years.

Saini also outlined future metro extensions, including routes from Rezangla Chowk to Dwarka Sector-21, Sector-56 to Pachgaon, and connections to Delhi, Karnal, Neemrana, and Noida via Faridabad.

Khattar further announced plans to provide 10,000 buses at concessional rates nationwide, with 450 allocated to Haryana, including 100 for Gurgaon.

Haryana Industries Minister Rao Narbir Singh dubbed the metro rail project as a milestone for Gurugram’s socio-economic growth, citing its potential to boost investment and ease traffic. Gurugram MLA Mukesh Sharma stated the metro rail corridor would enhance connectivity between old and new Gurgaon, making daily commutes more convenient.
