A day after the monsoon entered the capital and brought the city to a halt with the heaviest downpour in 88 years for June, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday warned that the city may experience moderate to heavy rain in the next three days.

The maximum temperature was 32.5 degree Celsius on Friday, five notches below normal. Since June 24, the maximum temperature at the base station dropped gradually from 40.4 degree Celsius to 39 degree Celsius on June 26, and to 35.4 degree Celsius on June 27.

On Friday, the rains further brought down the maximum temperature.

The IMD has attributed the rain to a rare cluster of large-scale weather systems over Delhi which carried heavy moisture and provided favourable conditions for thunderstorms. This led to heavy downpours in the early hours on Friday with Safdarjung recording 228.1 mm rainfall in 24 hours till 8.30 am.

The IMD at 1.30 pm on Saturday said, “Light to moderate intensity rain and winds with speed of 20-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of NCR (Ghaziabad, Chhapraula, Dadri, Greater Noida)… during the next 2 hours.” As per the IMD, rain is also expected in a few areas in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
