Delhi Air Quality Index (AQI) Level Today, 29 November 2025: Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘Very Poor’ category on Saturday, with the city recording an average AQI of 338 at 9 AM, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). This marks a slight dip from Friday’s average of 384, yet the capital has now grappled with ‘Very Poor’ to ‘Severe’ air quality for over 14 consecutive days.

According to the Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, relief is unlikely, with the air quality expected to remain in the ‘Very Poor’ category over the coming week due to unfavourable meteorological conditions.

According to CPCB standards, an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51–100 ‘satisfactory’, 101–200 ‘moderate’, 201–300 ‘poor’, 301–400 ‘very poor’ and 401–500 ‘severe’.

According to AQI.in, breathing air in this location is as harmful as smoking 8.5 cigarettes a day. This estimate is based on the average PM2.5 concentration over the past 24 hours, assuming continuous exposure during that time.

With pollution levels consistently breaching the 300 mark, doctors have stressed the need for diagnostic screening to detect early signs of respiratory distress, especially among smokers, children, and those with pre-existing cardiac conditions.

The difference in the readings by different organisations is due to the various parameters measured at different locations and the number of monitoring stations and devices.

Mumbai air quality worsens

Meanwhile, Mumbai is battling its own pollution spike. On Saturday morning, the city recorded an AQI of 197 (Moderate to Poor). In response to the deteriorating air, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had issued stop-work notices for 53 construction sites for violating pollution norms.

The civic body has directed that all construction sites must install AQI monitoring sensors that remain operational 24×7. Sites failing to comply with these guidelines face immediate closure.
