Delhi Metro’s shortest section on Magenta Line is likely to open soon

The Janakpuri West Metro stretch will eventually run through areas such as the Krishna Park Extension, Keshopur, Paschim Vihar, Peeragarhi, Mangol Puri, West Enclave, Pushpanjali, Deepali Chowk, Pitampura, Prashant Vihar, North Pitampura, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalaswa, Majlis Park, Azadpur, Ashok Vihar, Derawal Nagar, Ghanta Ghar, Pulbangash, Sadar Bazar and Nabi Karim, and conclude at R K Ashram.

Once completed, the 29.26-km-long extension will have 22 additional stops, adding to the existing 37.46 km and 25 stations. The Phase IV project has been DMRC’s most ambitious and awaited project, which aims to connect Delhi areas that are considered far-flung, said officials.

After the project was approved, the DMRC was to add 103.93 km to its network with 65 km dedicated to priority corridors — Saket G Block to Lajpat Nagar, Inderlok to Indraprastha, and Janakpuri West to R K Ashram.

While Phase IV was set to be completed by 2024, the Covid pandemic pushed back the timeline of the project, which is now estimated to be completed by 2026 — with some sections operational by mid-2025, said officials.
