Delhi Metro plans parking lots at all Gurgaon stations

Apart from meeting transportation needs of Gurgaon residents,the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also plans to address the parking woes of Metro commuters.

Apart from meeting transportation needs of Gurgaon residents,the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) also plans to address the parking woes of Metro commuters. The DMRC now plans to construct parking spots at all Metro stations in the Gurgaon area.

“With this,the total available parking space provided by the DMRC will near 1,70,000 square m,in which approximately 15,000 four-wheelers and 20,000 two-wheelers can be accommodated,” a DMRC official said. “The total number of parking lots of the Delhi Metro will go up to 63 after the Gurgaon section is opened for the public,” the official added.

Parking spaces will be provided at HUDA City Centre,IFFCO Chowk,MG Road,Sikanderpur and Guru Dronacharya Metro Stations.

Among the upcoming parking lots will also be included the second largest parking lot in the entire Metro network,the DMRC spokesperson said.

“The HUDA City Centre Metro station will have a parking space of 6,500 square m,which will be the second largest on the Metro network following the existing parking lot at Kanhaiya Nagar,” the official said. The Kanhaiya Nagar Metro station has 7,042 square m of parking space.

The other Metro stations in Gurgaon will have parking lots measuring 5,950 sq m (at

IFFCO Chowk),876 sq m (MG Road),1,577 sq m (Sikanderpur) and 4,572 sq m (Guru Dronacharya).

Apart from the Kanhaiya Nagar and HUDA City Centre Metro stations,the other major DMRC parking lots are at the Janakpuri West,Yamuna Bank and Patel Chowk stations.

In the Delhi Metro’s NCR network,parking spaces have been provided at three stations — Noida Sector 16,Botanical Garden and Noida City Centre Metro station.

Approximately seven km of the elevated Gurgaon section of the Delhi Metro forms part of the under-construction 27 km-long Central Secretariat (CTST)-Gurgaon corridor,which will be an extension of the Jahangirpuri-Central Secretariat line,the DMRC official added.

“Once the corridor is opened,it will form an approximately 45-km long Metro line connecting North Delhi,South Delhi and Gurgaon,” the official added. The 12.53-km CTST-Qutub Minar section will be fully underground,while the 14.47-km Qutub Minar-Gurgaon section will be fully elevated. “We are expecting 1.6 lakh people on CTST-Qutub Minar section daily by 2011,while 1.8 lakh commuters are expected on the Qutub Minar-Gurgaon section daily by 2011,” the official said.
