A man in the Chandni Mahal area of Delhi lodged a police complaint against his wife after he discovered that she had allegedly burnt his five-year-old daughter.
According to the Delhi Police, the man filed a formal complaint Sunday night. The man told the police that his daughter from his first marriage had been continuously mistreated by his second wife.
He claimed that his daughter was physically abused by his wife on several occasions, but he was unaware of the extent of the harm until he received a call from a neighbour around 1.30 am Sunday.
The neighbour reported loud cries from his home, prompting the girl’s father to rush back from his work in Ghazipur Mandi. “When I came back home, my daughter’s legs were burned in several places, and the skin had peeled off. My daughter told me that her mother had beaten her,” wrote the father in his complaint.
The man immediately took his daughter to Lok Nayak Hospital for treatment. He called the police, who recorded his statement at the hospital.
The police filed a Medical Legal Case (MLC) report, confirming the extent of the burns and the trauma the child had endured.
Following the complaint, the police filed a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 75 (cruelty to a child) of the Juvenile Justice Act.
The police said the case was registered at the Chandni Mahal Police Station, and further investigations are underway.
