Delhi Govt studying existing Acts to impose ‘heavy fine’ for violating odd-even scheme

“In the meeting, CM was apprised by officials that Delhi government doesn’t need to enact a law to impose the fine on those violating odd-even scheme as existing Acts allow the state government to do the same,” said a senior government official.

The official said the government is studying three existing Acts – Environment Protection Act, the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act and Motor Vehicles Act – under which government can impose a penalty on the violators.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh who assured full support of the Centre and Delhi Police to the AAP government on implementing its odd-even scheme for plying of private vehicles in the city from January 1.

After the meeting, Kejriwal had said he apprised Singh of all the proposals during his nearly 40-minute-long meeting with the Home Minister, whose response was “very positive”.
