Delhi doctor assaulted by patient’s family over delay in treatment

A doctor at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital was allegedly assaulted by a patient’s family members while collecting her blood samples amid their complaints against the delay in treatment, officers said.

According to the officer, the incident occurred on Thursday when Dr Puneeth was taking the patient’s blood samples.

“While on duty at the Emergency Care System (ECS) on the first floor during sample collection, a doctor from the Department of Medicine was assaulted by the relatives of a female patient. The relatives were angry as they believed the treatment was taking too long,” the officer stated. The hospital has filed a complaint regarding the alleged assault, the officer said.

The patient remains admitted to the hospital and is currently unconscious while her relatives fled the scene after the incident, the officer added. Police said that no arrests have been made so far.
