The much-awaited three-lane half flyover at the Sarai Kale Khan T-junction will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Sunday, ensuring a signal-free ride between Southeast Delhi and ITO.
The additional half flyover at Sarai Kale Khan is 545 metres long, and it will have three lanes, ramps, stilt portions and loops for U-turns. The upside ramp portion will be approximately 90 metres, the downside ramp will be 95 metres, and the stilt portion will be approximately 360 metres.
The flyover has been built at a cost of Rs 57.70 crore in addition to the existing flyover stretch to provide a signal-free route from ITO to Sarai Kale Khan, Ashram and other parts of Southeast Delhi.
Besides facilitating connectivity for traffic from ITO to Ashram, the flyover will largely help to decongest the Sarai Khan inter-state bus terminal and T-junction, where several other projects such as Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) projects are coming up, said officials.
The department has also provided two U-turns and one intersection to improve the area below the stilt portion with footpath, landscaping, railing etc, said an official.
Currently, the location sees huge traffic jams due to ongoing construction work. Now, the ride between South East Delhi, Sarai Kale Khan, ITO, IP, Pragati Maidan and routes towards East Delhi will be smooth and congestion-free, said officials.
