Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pravesh Ratn, who had contested the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections from Patel Nagar (Central) against AAP’s former minister Raj Kumar Anand, officially joined the Aam Aadmi Party on Wednesday. This marks the eighth major induction for AAP this year as it strengthens its roster ahead of the Assembly elections likely to be held early in 2025.
Ratn, a prominent face of the Jatav community, has been associated with the BJP for 20 years and held leadership roles in its Yuva Morcha. During the 2020 elections, he secured the second-highest vote share in Patel Nagar with 35 per cent, while the seat was won by AAP’s Anand. However, Anand later resigned and joined the Bahujan Samaj Party before the Lok Sabha polls, leaving the seat open for a reshuffle.
AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak introduced Ratn, emphasizing his influence within the Jatav community. “Today, we have a new person joining the Aam Aadmi Party government. Pravesh Ratn…is a big face of the Jatav community in Delhi,” Pathak said.
Former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia praised AAP’s governance and its impact on marginalised communities. “Under the guidance of Arvind Kejriwal, our government has worked especially for the Jatav and Dalit communities. Their way of living has improved, and their families have benefitted immensely,” he said.
Ratn credited Kejriwal’s leadership and policies to his decision to switch sides. “Kejriwal ji has given Delhi everything it had never received before. My community loves him for a reason. The freebies that he provides have helped lower-income groups save their salaries,” he said.
Ratn further said that he would work for the welfare of marginalised groups, especially the Jatav community. “A person will go wherever he gets love,” he added, claiming that he was being ignored by the BJP.
