In Delhi to attend sports event, minor sexually assaulted

A 14-year-old boy from Uttarakhand, who was in Delhi to attend a sports event, was allegedly sexually assaulted earlier this week by several other participants at a club in Outer North Delhi, the police said on Thursday.

After the incident came to light, an 18-year-old was arrested, and five other minors were apprehended, the police added.

In his statement to the police, the boy said that on April 22, he was stripped and assaulted by multiple boys participating in the event.

“The minor alleged that he was called inside the room by some of the participants. They made him strip his clothes off, and multiple members sexually assaulted him. Two of them recorded the entire incident,” a senior police official said.

According to the police, on Wednesday, the minor’s elder sister called the child helpline number and reported the incident.

After a preliminary investigation, the 18-year-old accused was arrested, and five minors were apprehended.

A case has been registered under sections 4 (penetrative sexual assault on a child), 8 (sexual assault), and 17 (punishment for abetment) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, the police said. Further investigation is underway, the police added.

According to Delhi Police data, a 14.63 per cent drop in molestation cases was registered in the first three months this year compared to 2024.

While last year, 444 such cases were filed, 379 cases were registered this year. In 2023, 547 molestation cases were recorded between January and March, which is 30.71 per cent higher compared to this year.
