Decapitated body found on railway tracks that of ED officer: Police

A decapitated body of an officer of the Enforcement Directorate, who was questioned in an alleged bribery case involving a colleague, was found on the railway tracks in Ghaziabad last Sunday, police said on Wednesday.

“The deceased has been identified as Alok Kumar Pankaj and we have sent the body for autopsy,” said DSP (Railways), Ghaziabad, Sudesh Kumar Gupta, adding, “We discovered his driving licence on the body.”

After the information about the body was received on August 18, GRP reached out to Pankaj’s family members and they said he had left the house for a walk on Sunday (August 18) morning, Gupta said.

Earlier this month, the CBI had arrested an Assistant Director of the ED, Sandeep Singh Yadav, for allegedly seeking Rs 20 lakh as bribe and the money, police said, exchanged hands in his car in Delhi.

Yadav was produced before the special CBI court in Mumbai where he, through his lawyer, stated that he had only given a person a lift in his car and was falsely implicated in the case. The agency sought Yadav’s custody for seven days to interrogate him to probe a ‘larger conspiracy’.

The CBI’s Mumbai team had arrested Yadav after it received a complaint from the owner of a company.

Special public prosecutor Sandeep Singh, appearing for the CBI, submitted that Yadav was part of searches conducted in the house of the complainant in Mumbai on August 2-3. Yadav was not the investigation officer in the case and was accompanied by another officer, named Alok Kumar Pankaj.
