His answersheets bearing 20/20 scores, certificates won at school, a picture of him with a medal around his neck, a family collage that he made for a class assignment — these were all shown to Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia by the parents of six-year-old Devansh Kakrora, with the sole intention of proving their child was not “special” as labelled by the school and to seek a CBI probe against the school for his death.
“I asked the principal if she knew my child. She said she didn’t. I asked her how she could claim he was hyperactive? She said that’s what the class teacher had said. Look at all this… This isn’t the work of a special child. My child was bright. They can’t just say anything to shift the blame,” Devansh’s father R H Meena told Sisodia Thursday.
As the parents reiterated the entire sequence of events, Sisodia, accompanied by his officers, listened.

“My child is just as old, I’m sad as well over what has happened. Don’t worry, we will take strict action,” he reassured them.
“If we didn’t suspect foul play, we would have just got him home. But we know something was wrong. Why was his shoe and tiffin box in the water tank? Why did the school ask me to be quiet? Why are they still not telling us what happened? We just can’t let it go..,” said Mamta, Devansh’s mother.
The parents also told Sisodia that “powerful people” were trying to protect the school. To which the minister said, “Even if they are powerful, we won’t spare them. It is important for the safety of all children that we do not let them off.”
It wasn’t just the parents who spoke to Sisodia. Visibly upset neighbours also questioned how the school could be let off in the face of the incident. “There has to be some accountability. In an international school like Ryan, no one knew where the child was. Action should be taken against the principal,” said one of the neighbours.
The minister asked the parents not to lose hope. “Let the officials file their report… then we will do whatever you say… It will take time, but do not worry,” he said.
Following Devansh’s death, Sisodia Monday had said the government was awaiting a report from the district magistrate. He also said the government would set up a special task force to inspect all schools in the capital to curb such incidents in future.
Earlier in the evening, the parents had gone on a candlelight march from the Vasant Kunj police station to the school.
Carrying Devansh’s photo, the parents accompanied by AIIMS karamcharis and relatives lit candles outside the premises and reiterated their demand for a CBI probe.
